A young girl named Cindy, wearing expensive clothes, jewelry, and gold roller skates, stands in front of a lemonade stand bearing her name. An old, disheveled man is working the stand. The lemons are shriveled, the lemonade is pale, the cups are small, and the price has been raised from 25 cents to $9.99 + service fee. The sign indicates that the lemonade stand was purchased by a private equity firm. Text on image: "Look what they did to my brand!"

Notes

While I don't have any strong opinions about private equity firms, it does suck when they purhase a restaurant you love and then ruin it. I guess the optimistic view is that it leaves holes in the markets for new places to take their spot, and in the end I get to try more great things. But I still longingly reminisce about the others as one would a friend who started dating the wrong person, took on all their worst traits, and alienated those closest to them. But at least they have their shiny new roller skates.
