While I generally don't intend to be political here, with this comic there's really no way around it. Though the positions that I have, which are certainly not mainstream, may be controversial, I don't believe the justifications for them are. Case in point, this comic.

There are studies that show that democratic governments don't represent the average voter, and that the wants of the majority have almost nothing to do with the actions of the government. And yet people will defend democracy as the ultimate form of representative governance. They will say with a straight face that voting is the most important, impactful thing one can do as a citizen. And they will not feel any cognitive dissonance, because there is no actual cognition. They're just regurgitating what they were taught throughout their formative years in government-run schools that optimize for obedience.

I will never give up hope that people will wake up, but I don't expect it to happen. I don't think most people are capable of waking up. They simply do what they're told and think what they're taught.

As for the specific sentiment stated in the caption of this comic, it seems so ridiculous that it's not even worth arguing against. Yet people will say it for the same reason they continue to believe in the system. So let me just say this. I don't vote. Yet I have and will continue to complain. And I have every right and reason to do so.
